Beginning on the 24th April, Cheshire colleges are holding a series of activities to promote the higher education opportunities available to students in the area. Macclesfield College is holding an Information Evening on Tuesday 4th May where our lecturers will be on hand to talk to prospective students and their families about the growing range of full and part time HE courses that are offered right on their doorstep.
Reaseheath, Mid Cheshire (Hartford/Winsford), South Cheshire (Crewe), West Cheshire (Chester), and Warrington Collegiate Colleges will also be holding open days, information and advice sessions and other promotional activities.
Between the colleges there are over 100 higher education qualifications on offer. These include Degrees, Foundation degrees, Higher National Certificates and Diplomas and Professional Body qualifications in wide range of subjects from accountancy to sport, and arts to education. Most courses last two years and lead, particularly in the case of Foundation degrees, to further studies at Chester and Manchester Metropolitan Universities.
Mike Battye, HE Development Manager for the Cheshire HE Consortium, said "Although we have over 1000 students studying for higher and professional qualifications, many people are still not aware of the benefits of starting out in higher education at their local college. Together with the convenience of studying close to home and the financial advantages of lower fees - in some cases less than one third of university fees - we offer high quality tuition in small tutor groups and excellent study and social facilities. With Foundation degrees in particular you gain a nationally recognised HE qualification and the guarantee of progression to Honours degree level at the University of Chester or MMU."

With the support of Aimhigher, Cheshire & Warrington, the Cheshire HE Consortium has produced a prospectus of HE opportunities specifically for those who are leaving, or have recently left school or college. Contact Macclesfield College or the Connexions office for a copy. Alternatively the website: www.cheshireHE.ac.uk gives full details of HE programmes at each college.
