A fantastic day was rounded off with a pizza at Gusto

Airbus LogoTwo girls from the Engineering - Girls Can Do It Too! Project were lucky enough to be invited to Airbus on a VIP trip as a reward for their commitment to the Project throughout 2008/9.

Hannah from Macclesfield High and Nicole from Congleton High, accompanied by their Mums, started the day with the Health and Safety essentials before being taken on a guided tour of the A380 factory by Steve Edwards, Education Partnership Centre Manager and Kim Shallcross from Human Resources. They were joined by Beth Pickering, who has recently won the prestigious title of 'Apprentice of the Year' 2010 for her commitment, determination and self motivation in her academic and technical studies. A Higher Engineering Apprentice, Beth is an inspiration to other girls and has been involved with the Project since the beginning, including an interview on the Project's DVD. Beth explained to Hannah and Nicole how the wings are transported using road and air, utilising the unusual shaped aeroplane the Beluga.

After lunch, the girls went off for a guided tour of Chester Zoo, where they visited the bat enclosure where bats flew around them, the magnificent butterfly house where butterflies landed on them and the penguin marina, where the penguins leapt out of the water in formation to show how pleased they were to see group. Even the Keeper said "I've never seen them perform like this before!"

Finally, the day was rounded off with a pizza and a discussion of the days exciting events. Hannah said "going to Airbus has given me a different insight into a future career" and Nicole's mother said "I am so proud of what Nicole has achieved. She has seen that her opportunities for the future are so wide".

More information on Airbus can be viewed on the 'Movie Files' section of the "Girls Can Do It Too" page.
