Food Service students from Macclesfield College have been celebrating recently after scooping Bronze in the 2009 'Skills Olympics' competition at the University of Derby Buxton.
Ciara Newton and Stacey Ashmore, who are studying for an NVQ 2 at Macclesfield College, stayed cool under pressure as they faced strong competition from 6 other colleges.
The students showed off their Food Service skills as they set up and served a table of guests in the university's restaurant, under close scrutiny from a team of judges.
Sue Lawrence, BTEC Hospitality Tutor at Macclesfield College, said: 'Ciara and Stacey have already gained invaluable experience on their course through regular service in the College's Silk Room Restaurant and this really showed on the day. We are all delighted with their success!'
For Ciara, this success builds on her excellent performance at the Welsh Salon Culinaire competition, a tough yearly challenge for up and coming talent, where she won Gold in Junior Napkin Folding and a Certificate of Merit for her Sole dish. Ciara commented: 'The competitions have been a great experience and I feel like I have learnt a lot this year. The tutors have been fantastic and I'm planning on coming back in September to complete my Level 3 qualification."
