The team from Year 5 at Dean Valley proudly display their award

Teams of girls from Dean Valley Primary School in Bollington, and Congleton High School have been enjoying lego success as part of a project run by Macclesfield College.

The girls joined teams of students from schools across the North West to take part in the national Lego League Challenge, held recently at the University of Manchester.

Each team arrived at the University with lego robots they had made in after school clubs. Their challenge on the day was to programme their robots to move around the set obstacle course collecting points on the way.

Both teams received special awards for their work, with the Year 8 students from Congleton High winning the 'best teamwork' award for their entry. The Year 5 girls from Dean Valley added their own special twist to the day by singing a story about their team's green credentials, which won them the 'most creative' award.
The girls attended the competition as part of a series of events for the 'Engineering - Girls Can Do It Too' project run by Macclesfield College, which introduces local girls to the opportunities available in Engineering. The project aims to show the girls how these exciting careers can be accessed by studying Science, Maths, Technology and Engineering at school, college and university.
