Macclesfield College has appointed a new Chair of Governors to its board.
Mark Sharples, from Macclesfield, takes the position following a successful two years on the board of Governors. During that time Mark has worked on the Boards Audit committee and been the link Governor for Hospitality and Catering.
According to the College, appointing someone of Mark’s standing will help ensure that the College’s current education journey, alongside its three year strategic vision until 2018, are all on a clear and dynamic trajectory.
Mark previously worked for 32 years as an officer within Cheshire Police serving within their family protection unit. He also ran his own Manchester-based industrial and domestic landscaping business. Currently Mark now runs Five Clouds bar and brewery in Macclesfield. He has previously worked as a volunteer within Youth and Colts Rugby at Macclesfield Rugby Club.
Speaking of his appointment, Mark said: “The Board and Leadership team at Macclesfield College have a shared vision based around an absolute commitment to educational excellence. I am delighted to be taking on a role which will not only guarantee that our strategic vision is met, but will also ensure the College remains at the centre of the community providing fantastic opportunities in workplace learning, within an inspirational, modern and safe environment.
“In the last year we have seen many positive changes right across the College, these have included stronger links with employers and the introduction of our employer engagement arm, Maxim Business Training. The creation of Maxim has allowed us to work with employers on a local and national level to ensure that we are providing high level training in the subjects that industry needs. Our aim is to equip learners with the skills, attitudes and experience they need to succeed in the workplace.”
Chief Executive and Principal of Macclesfield College, Rachel Kay, added: “Mark’s experience and achievements, especially in working with young people, can be clearly seen in his passion and dedication to the College, and his appointment to Chair of Governors was an obvious choice.
“Like many education providers we have faced challenges in the last 12 months, but with a strong Board in place, we are continuously implementing positive changes in the quality of teaching, learning and outcomes for our learners, and we look forward to Mark being a part of that.”
