College Question Time for local MP

Students at Macclesfield College hosted a ‘Question Time’ session with local MP David Rutley to find out more about how government works and the role of a Member of Parliament.

David shared with the students his experience of representing local people and the Macclesfield constituency and took part in a question and answer session where the students asked about current affairs and the workings of the UK political system.

The students, who are all in the first year of a BTEC Extended Diploma qualification in Public Services, are currently studying the Government and Policy Making as part of a unit on their course. David was invited into the College to help the students gain a greater understanding of local and national politics and how the electoral process works.

The MP’s visit provided an excellent opportunity for the students to put their studies into a real-world context and to help prepare them for future careers in the Public Services sector.

Mr Rutley commented, “It was a pleasure to visit Macclesfield College and discuss policy making and current affairs with the students. The question and answer session was fun, lively and informed, and will hopefully be of assistance to the students. I wish all of them every success in their studies.”
