Macclesfield College's Travel and Tourism students recently worked for several weeks in preparation for a glamourous Hollywood themed evening. They created a buffet style menu to cater to everyone’s tastes and worked with the College’s Catering students to prepare it. They also created decorations for the College’s Silk Room restaurant and bought appropriate items to dress the tables to fit the Hollywood theme. To ensure the event was well attended the students organised relevant marketing such as, designing posters and leaflets - they also created the tickets and menus for the evening. As the event was to help raise money for their educational trip to Spain this February there was also a raffle which they collected the prizes for. As well as the raffle there was a Hollywood quiz in which the winner received a bottle of wine.
Travel and Tourism tutor Nwyla commented, “The students all worked well in their teams decorating and preparing the Silk Room for the evening. They mixed well with all the guests who were parents and friends of the students who had bought tickets to support their event, and made sure that everyone was having a lovely time - the catering students also served the buffet food and drinks to the guests. The students did us proud and parents commented to us saying how well organised and how lovely the food and the evening was.”
She added, “The students all enjoyed the event and felt proud of themselves in what they had achieved and completed in the preparations and on the evening, it also gave them an excellent opportunity to see what it would be like working in a career in Event Management which some of them are considering for University applications next year.”
