Fashion students prepare for university

Lottie Coleman, a former Fashion student from Macclesfield College of Further and Higher Education came back to visit the current year 2 students as they prepare for their university degree applications.

Lottie joined course leader for Fashion, Angela Devoti, as a guest to interview students and give them a realistic experience of the type of questions asked at the BA HONS Fashion interviews which will be taking place soon.

Lottie commented, “Coming back to the College was so special; I loved looking around my old studios seeing my tutor and the current students. The second years all did really well during their mock interviews and I know how nerve wracking this can be but each student was so professional. I was equally impressed with their portfolios - I wish them all the very best towards their up and coming interviews!”

Phoebe Hilton, who is a year 2 student on the College’s UAL (University of the Arts London) course in Fashion, said, “It was a really good experience for all of us to take part in a real interview. Meeting Lottie really helped me as I was able to ask questions and find out what she loves about her course and doing fashion in general.”

Another student, Hannah Blackholly, was also pleased with the visit, “I felt the interview went really well - it was great practice for future interviews and I enjoyed hearing about Lottie’s life as a university student and young designer.”

Angela Devoti, course leader for Fashion at Macclesfield College, thanked Lottie for her valuable input, “Every year our former students come back to the Art Department and share their experiences from industry and university with our current students. Lottie was an incredible student - I always remember her working exceptionally hard often setting up in the studio at 8am ready to work on her projects. She truly relished the course and she never missed a day during her 2 years here. She has recently been working with London designer Jane Bowler as well as working towards her final year of her degree course.

“Once again all the second years are applying to the most prestigious Fashion courses in the UK. Competition is fierce for the students so lots of hard work on project work to develop their individual portfolios and preparation for the all-important interviews is vital in order to achieve an offer for the BA HONS places.

“Having Lottie join me on the interview panel was perfect. She used all her knowledge as a young designer to interview the students alongside me and helped to create an enriching experience for all of them. The second years were also treated to a group critique about their current design work and heard all about Lottie’s fantastic experience working in industry and planning towards her graduate show this June. The students found this inspiring to hear about Lottie’s journey from college to degree student and assistant to a contemporary designer. We were so happy to have her back and for her to share her creative practice with the students.”
