Macclesfield College of Further and Higher Education has re-launched its popular Silk Room Restaurant, with a glittering event for invited guests and members of the public to celebrate the opening of its new gallery space and refurbished dining area. The restaurant has recently been re-styled to provide an inspirational setting in which students can hone their culinary skills and to further enhance the restaurant’s reputation as one of Macclesfield’s premier venues for dining and events.
Along with new décor in the dining area which will feature high quality furnishing supplied by Arighi Bianchi, the restaurant now boasts a gallery exhibition area run by the College’s BTEC Hospitality and Event Management students which will showcase the work of local artists throughout the year. The students set up the gallery space and organised the launch party as part of their course, sourcing local produce and suppliers for all the event’s food and drink. The exhibition kicks off with a collection of beautifully crafted work by For Me & For You Designs.
First opened in 2007 as part of Macclesfield College’s state-of-the-art campus, the Silk Room Restaurant serves as a real-world training environment for its catering and hospitality students - and has become renowned for serving the finest cuisine at exceptional value, freshly prepared by professionally trained students. Under the guidance of highly qualified staff and industry experts, including the former head chef of the Royal Yacht Britannia, students training at the College have won many prestigious awards including Best in Class at the Welsh National Cookery Championships.
Macclesfield College Principal, Rachel Kay, commented, “I am very excited to launch our newly styled Silk Room Restaurant and gallery exhibition area. We have an excellent offering here with a sophisticated, new dining area and art space, run by fantastic students and staff serving a top-class gourmet menu. This investment in the restaurant demonstrates our strong commitment to prepare young people for the world of work, to boost local skills and the regional economy, as well as supporting local artists and offering the wider community an outstanding venue for dining and events.”
