New Science Sports Lab

Macclesfield Colleges Sport department are launching a new and improved Sports Science Lab this September.

Their Sport Science Lab consists of many pieces of specialist equipment which will enhance the students' learning experience. These include a Douglas bag which is a large bag in which expired gas is collected for several minutes to determine oxygen consumption in humans under conditions of actual work. A cycle ergometer - this cycling machine is used in fitness testing to estimate the exercise intensity (power output) from the rpm and the resistance to pedaling, which can be adjusted to vary the intensity. There is also Blood testing equipment to analyse glucose levels, along with monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory power.

Anyone interested in joining a Sports course at the College can find more information on our Sport course page.
