
ECAT is Macclesfield College’s European Centre for Aerospace Training, which offers Advanced Diplomas in Engineering and Manufacturing & Product Design as well as BTEC and NVQ qualifications in Mechanical, Electrical and Aerospace Engineering as well as professional qualifications for adults.
ECAT features a purpose built hangar to house its fully functional BAE Jetstream 31 aircraft and is rated as amongst the best aerospace training establishments for young people in the UK. It also has a good international reputation, attracting many students from overseas. ECAT benefits from a fully fitted mechanical science lab and workshop, modern electronic labs and a state-of-the-art ICT suite and lecture rooms.
Our highly qualified Engineering lecturers have extensive industrial knowledge and experience, and excellent links with local and national companies means ECAT provides industry standard vocational training that employers and individuals need to succeed in the modern economy.
ECAT has recently been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to deliver aircraft maintenance training to EASA IR-Part 147, which allows ECAT to provide accredited training for aerospace engineering professionals.
ECAT, the European Centre for Aerospace Training, with its custom designed aircraft hangar and fully serviceable Jetstream 31 turboprop aircraft has been involved with delivering aircraft training for more than 20 years. It has successfully delivered Higher Education to such companies as BAe Systems, My Travel, Monarch and the Kuwait Air Force during that time.
But did you know that ECAT also offer mechanical and electrical engineering Foundation Degrees that can be used to progress onto a full BEng (Hons) degree programme with MMU?
The college has delivered these courses for the past two years now and we have dedicated and qualified mechanical/manufacture and electrical engineers who provide the quality of teaching required at this high level.
The Foundation Degree can be studied either as a full time course (2 days per week over 2 years) or a part time course (1 day per week over 3 years). It is suited to individual students looking to progress into the world of mechanical or electrical engineering or to companies looking to develop further skills in these areas. In fact previously the college deliver Higher National Diploma courses for Astra Zeneca in Alderley Edge.
