First Aid KitWe have a well-established offer of training programmes in Health and Safety. Employees can attend College-based sessions or our team of experts can come and deliver courses to groups of your staff in Health and Safety, Food Safety, First Aid, Manual Handling or POVA (Protection of Vunerable Adults) at your premises at a time and date convenient to you.

The following programmes are available throughout the year both in College and in company. We can also devise bespoke training tailor-made to meet your specific business needs. Food Safety

Food Safety Awareness - 3 hour session
This Introduction to Food Safety is particularly suitable for those working in Care Homes or similar environments. This session covers food legislation, food poisoning and prevention, cleaning and personal hygiene.

Food Safety - Level 2 - 1 Day
A new award aimed at anyone wishing to gain a basic understanding about safety relating to food preparation and handling within the Catering and Hospitality sector. It may also be appropriate for those in other sectors whose work involves food preparation eg. Residential Care or Nursing Homes. The award has been developed to meet the new occupational standards in food safety in this sector and recent changes in legislation.

Food Safety - Level 3 - 18 hours
This advanced programme is suitable for those who manage or supervise food preparation and handling within the catering and hospitality sector. The award has been developed to meet the new occupational standards in food safety in this sector and recent changes in legislation.
 

Health and Safety

Health and Safety Awareness - 3 hours
This half-day session provides an introduction to Manual Handling, Safe Working Practices, COSHH and Risk Assessment. The emphasis is on making you more safety conscious for yourself and others and capable of identifying potential hazards.

Health and Safety Certificate  - Level 2
This qualification will benefit all employees as it provides an understanding of Health & Safety that will enable contribution to any risk-assessment based Health & Safety Management. The programme will cover the following areas: Health & Safety Welfare Law, the Workplace and Work Equipment, Risk Assessment, Manual Handling, Hazardous Substances, Ergonomics and Workstation Design, Working at Heights, Transport and Vehicles, Noise and Vibration.

Health and Safety  - Level 3 and IOSH Managing Safely
Health & Safety Management explores all the areas which managers are required to have competent and practical working knowledge of to ensure the compliance with Health & Safety Legislation. Managers should feel competent, on the completion of the course, to design, implement and monitor a Health & Safety programme within a medium sized/risk organisation.

The course is suitable for those who already have some experience or knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace and seek to build and extend their abilities and scope of understanding at a management level. The programme covers the following areas: Introduction to Health & Safety Management, Legislation and Enforcement, Working Environment, Fire Safety, Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Work Equipment, Manual Handling, Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and Health Safety Management.

NEBOSH National General Certificate - Level 3 - 90 hours
Health and Safety at work is a priority for every company and organisation. All employers should provide a safe place of work, not just for their employees, but also for their contractors, customers, other visitors (whether lawful or otherwise) and members of the public generally. This applies irrespective of the size or form of the business organisation.

The NEBOSH programme covers the following areas: Machinery Hazards and Guarding Systems, Manual and Mechanical lifting, Maintenance work, Construction, Demolition and Excavation, Scaffolding and Access Equipment, Electricity, Preventing and Fighting Fires, Industrial Hygiene - hazardous substances and health risks, Control Measures and Safe Working Practices, Noise and other environmental factors, Personal Protective Equipment, Ergonomics and the Workplace and First Aid.


First Aid

First Aid at Work - 3 Days
This Health and Safety Executive recognized programme coverts all the essential legal requirements for First Aiders in the Workplace. The course includes First Aid legislation and a practical approach to the recognition and treatments of minor and major injuries. Assessment consists of 2 practical assessments. Refresher courses for First Aiders are also available.

First Aid at Work - 2 Day Refresher
For existing First Aiders this course is for people wishing to renew a valid First Aid at Work certificate.

Annual Refresher
From October 2010 annual First Aid training is vital for employees to update their skills.

Emergency First Aid at Work
Many workplaces have experienced unexpected events where a client or member of staff has suddenly fallen ill or had an accident. Emergency Aid is the initial help given to a casualty for treatment of sudden illness or accidents until more professional help arrives. The application may be at home or in the workplace. This course will help to prepare you for such events and will cover: CPR, Rescue Breathing, Recovery Position, Choking, Shock, Bleeding, Heart Attack etc.

Paediatric First Aid - 12 hours
This intensive programme which covers the essentials in First Aid for Children is suitable for parents, carers, child minders and all those who work with children. It can be delivered in the workplace or on Saturday mornings or in the evening at College.

Manual Handling

Manual Handling Awareness - 3 hours
A short introduction to safe lifting and handling

Moving and Handling
This short intensive programme covers moving with hoists and other pieces of equipment. It is suitable for those working in a Care setting.


Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA)

Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA)
One day awareness-raising programme suitable for all those who work with or come into contact with vulnerable adults. This programme will help raise awareness of the issues and the identification of different kinds of abuse.
