Course Information

Overview
This qualification will aim to give you an introduction to the role of the professional taxi and private hire driver and on completion of the course enable you to apply for your taxi licence.

Who is it for?
This course is for you if you are looking to a career in taxi driving or are an existing taxi driver.

Outcome
You will achieve a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver.

On achieving the qualification you will automatically be registered by EDEXCEL on to the National Register of Taxi and Private Hire Drivers developed by People First, the UK skills council for hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism.

Entry Requirements
Firstly you will need to reserve yourself a place on the course by contacting the Customer Services Team. You will then be required to attend an induction session which is held prior to the start of the course. In the induction session you will be given an overview of the course, contents and requirements. There will be a computerised assessment for you to complete which will be followed by an informal interview with a member of the teaching team.
After your interview you may complete your enrolment and confirm your place on the course by making payment at reception.

Content
You will study the following units;

• Health and safety in the work environment of the taxi and private hire driver
• How to transport passengers safely and in relative comfort
• To provide professional customer service
• How to maintain a taxi or private hire vehicle to a legal standard for the safe transport of fee-paying passengers
• How to operate a hackney carriage or private hire vehicle within the regulatory framework pertaining to the licencing are in which you are licenced to transport passengers
• How to provide a transport service for passengers who require assistance
• How to transport parcels, luggage and other items
• How to transport children and young people
• Preparation for the knowledge test

Assessment
Each unit will be assessed through an on-screen multiple choice question test at the end of each session and an observation test.
You are allowed one free re-sit for each unit failed. After that should you need to re-sit an exam there will be a charge of £25 per unit.

Please note that for each exam that is taken photographic identification of yourself is required and this can either be your passport or your full driving licence (paper and card).

Career Opportunities
Upon completion of this course you can apply to be a taxi licence badge holder with East Cheshire Council and other licencing offices.

Additional Information
You can purchase a study support pack which consists of 3 books that cover all 9 units and a DVD with practical multiple choice test questions. This pack costs £45.00 from the College’s reception and although this is optional it is strongly recommended.
