This is a course involving reading, discussion, thinking on counselling concepts, use of own experiences through skills practice, and learning skills in counselling.
Who is it for?
This is a course to for those wishing to return to study, and have good English, and a sound balanced mind. It is for those individuals seeking a career change, undertaking voluntary work, enhancing career prospects through extra qualifications or thinking of training as a professional counsellor.
ABC Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts
An interview will take place to ensure that candidates are able to deal with the demands of the course, and must be attended.
The course involves experiential learning and self-awareness exercises. *An interview will take place to ensure that candidates are able to deal with the demands of the course, emotionally and academically.
Unit 1. The professional context of Counselling
Unit 2. Communication skills in helping roles
Unit 3. An Introduction to Personal Development
All units will be internally assessed and externally moderated. This may take the form of observation, short pieces of written work, discussion and using skills practice.
Follow up courses/Progression
Candidates may use the Certificate as evidence for admission to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills course. Progression is not automatic.
No person is qualified at the end of this course to use counselling skills or be a counsellor. The course allows candidates to make an informed decision as to whether to embark on training towards a career in counselling or an allied career where counselling skills would be useful.
