This qualification will provide learners with a secure understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in school environments and is made up of mandatory and optional units which are based on knowledge and skills.
Who is it for?
This qualification is suitable for teaching assistants, learning support assistants, parent support advisors, learning mentors or those in similar role at level 3.
CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners will need to be at least 16 years of age.
Work in a real work environment - Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement as they will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
To gain the qualification learners will need to achieve 44 credits with 40 of these credits being achieved at level 3 or above. A total of 32 credits will come from the mandatory units and then learners will need to obtain a minimum of 12 credits from the optional units.
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. Methods of assessment could include:
• Knowledge from direct observation of practice
• Witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy
• Professional discussion
• Reflection on own practice in real work situations
• Written assignments
• Learner’s own plans and written records
• Task set by awarding for knowledge learning outcomes only
The qualification will be pass or refer and all the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass.
Follow up courses/Progression
Will provide progression to Foundation Degree in Supporting Teaching and Learning/HLTA on completion of two years post qualifying experience.
This qualification will establish the learner as a qualified experienced worker at level 3 and will allow access to working directly with children or young people in school environments.
