Course Information

Overview
This qualification will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in the school environment and is made up of mandatory and optional units which are based on knowledge and skills.

Who is it for?
This course is suitable for learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants.

Outcome
CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners will need to be at least 16 years of age.

Work in a real work environment - learners will need to be working or volunteering in a school environment as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

Content
To gain the qualification learners will need to achieve 30 credits with 24 credits coming from the mandatory units. They will then need to achieve a minimum of 3 credits from optional units in Group A and 3 credits from optional units in Group B. This qualification includes four mandatory units from the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting the Wider Curriculum in Schools. This enables credits and learning to be transferred from one qualification to another.

Assessment
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. Methods of assessment could include:

• Inference of knowledge from direct observation of practice
• Witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy
• Professional discussion
• Reflection on own practice in real work situations
• Written assignments
• Learner’s own plans and written records
• Task set by awarding body for knowledge learning outcomes only

The qualification will be ‘pass’ or ‘refer’ and all the assessment criteria of the chosen units must be achieved in order to obtain a pass.
