Statement from Rachel Kay, Principal and Chief Executive, Macclesfield College, on the publication of the Ofsted Report
The latest Ofsted inspection report has been published today (24.06.2016).
Commenting on the report, Rachel Kay said:
“During the last year, since I was appointed Principal, far-reaching changes have been implemented at Macclesfield College in recognition of the need to make significant improvements in the quality of teaching and learning, and outcomes for our learners.
“Whilst the Ofsted report highlights the need for further improvement in certain areas, we are pleased that inspectors recognised that changes put in place during this academic year have started to have an impact on many areas of our provision. The report also acknowledges that actions taken during this academic year have had insufficient time to demonstrate tangible results across all curriculum areas.
“The report identifies a number of areas of strength at the college including improvements in retention and attendance, the positive behaviour and attitudes of learners to their work and the strong partnerships that exist that are enabling us to meet local priorities. It is particularly pleasing that the quality of our Apprenticeship provision has been rated as good, recognising our work in engaging with local employers and equipping our young learners with the skills, attitudes and experience they need to succeed in the workplace.
“The leadership team here at Macclesfield College has a very clear vision of how we will continue to drive up standards of teaching and learning for all our students. We are confident that this year’s results, expected during the coming weeks, will reaffirm the progress that has been made to date. However we fully recognise the need to continue on our journey to ensure that Macclesfield College offers young people every opportunity to achieve their true potential and support local employers in meeting their skills needs.
“I would like to thank each and every person and organisation that has supported Macclesfield College during the past year: our board of governors; staff; learners and their parents; local employers and our partners and stakeholders. We are indebted to you for helping us to make Macclesfield College an organisation that we can all be proud of and I look forward to working with you in the coming months and years ahead.”
